WINDHOEK, Namibia - The Ministry of Health and Social Services (MoHSS), in collaboration with Unite Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), recently hosted the Namibia Family Planning (FP) Technical Working Group meeting alongside the FP2030 Eastern and Southern Africa (ESA) Hub team. The meeting took place from 19-20 March 2024.

The primary objectives of the Southern Africa (ESA) Hub team visit were to review Namibia's FP2030 Commitment action plan and work plan, aligning them with the FP2030 Action Planning template. This alignment aims to streamline and enhance the country's efforts towards achieving its family planning goals.

Namibia launched its FP2030 Commitment in 2022 and is due for self-reporting by April 2024. This commitment aims to advance rights-based family planning, making Namibia part of a global partnership focused on family planning, FP2030. As a commitment-making country, Namibia, along with others, stands to benefit from various technical assistance initiatives aimed at supporting the implementation of its FP2030 Commitment.

Key outcomes of the meeting included preparing Namibia for self-reporting on its progress in implementing the FP2030 Commitment. This process not only highlights Namibia's achievements but also amplifies its efforts on the global stage.

Furthermore, the visit focused on strengthening the capacity of Namibia's FP2030 focal point team to effectively lead the commitment's implementation. The team received orientation on the FP2030 data measurement dashboard and gained insights into monitoring indicators crucial for tracking progress.

Discussions also underscored the importance of collaboration between Namibia's family planning stakeholders and the FP2030 ESA Hub. This partnership aims to provide clarity on technical assistance needs and foster mutual support in advancing family planning initiatives.
